A New Hope, A New Leader
Hacked by: Andrew Harris, New Republic
Date: Year 14 Day 77 Onboard the MC80 Home One Class Star Cruiser NRS Amber in system Arkanis (280, -268).

With the recent resignation of Chief of State Cheda Quche and his subsequent murder at the hands of the Emperor, the New Republic proceeded with an emergency election for the top political office. Immediately three candidates stepped forward into the sombre yet hectic campaign: High Ambassador Andrew Harris, Director Azriel Pitot of Incom Corporation and Senator Azzi Blackgate. Throughout the campaign military preparation and leadership cultivation seemed to be a large focus of questioning, likely reactionary to the events which had led up to the election. Given the military backgrounds of Harris and Blackgate, preliminary polling seemed to favour the two for a potential run-off.

The initial voting ended with front-runner Azzi Blackgate taking exactly 50% of the total votes cast. Due to Article Three of the New Republic Constitution and the requirement that any Chief of State requires more than 50% of the vote in order to be elected, the citizens of the New Republic prepared for an impending run-off campaign. However, with 3% of voters spoiling their vote, legal teams across the galaxy began to scramble to review challenges related to this outcome, and whether those ballots would count towards the total vote percentage.

Fortunately the need for a lengthy legal challenge was avoided by the selfless act of the runner-up, High Ambassador Andrew Harris, who conceded defeat shortly after the results were announced, "While such runoff may be required by law, I don't wish to waste any additional time in an already clear matter. [] there is nothing I see that can be changed so for me campaigning ends today. Thanks to those who voted for me. Thanks to Azzi and Azriel to uphold the democratic values of the New Republic in ensuring a nice, fair campaign and best luck towards you both."

With Harris' withdrawal from the race, it became evident that Azzi Blackgate would indeed replace Acting Chief of State Wedge Achilles for the remainder of Cheda Quche's term of office. Reached shortly after Harris' announcement, Chief of State-elect Azzi Blackgate shared his thoughts with RNN.

"It's with great humility that I accept the office of Chief of State. I've been involved at varying levels of government for a long time and am happy to be sitting in the big chair now. I'd like to say thanks to Mr Harris and Mr Pitot for a competitive campaign and wish them both well for the future. I thank you all for the trust you've vested in me and for those who voted otherwise, I'll make it my sole aim to prove you wrong for the next year. Now, there's a bottle of Corellian whiskey and a rather large in-tray on my desk that needs attending to urgently. I'm sure I'll get to the in-tray at some point. I only intend to keep this brief so I'll say good evening to all, and long live the New Republic."

Instead of the usual fanfare, the newest Chief of State was sworn in as part of a small ceremony on Republica, with a handful of media members and delegates from the government present. One of the longest serving members of the New Republic, Chief of State Blackgate has served in nearly every facet of the New Republic as leader of four nationalised companies, Academy Dean of the Military, Minister of State, Director of the Center for Republic Intelligence, High Ambassador, Minister of Trade and Industry, and as a Senator. He has also served in the Army and most recently Starfighter Command, in addition to serving as a Knight of the Council. Professionally known as the "Faction Paramedic" due to his outstanding no-nonsense work ethic and willingness to go wherever needed, the New Republic's future looks bright following the recent tragedy.
