Eidola Turning Over A New Leaf? (Hacked by Hal Breden on Year 10 Day 297)
Political analysts are expressing surprise today at a policy change by Eidola that seems to stem from a very unlikely source. The Eidola Pirates are renowned galaxywide for their ruthless approach to piracy and might-is-right rule over a number of systems and sectors, as well as being behind the terrorist Nefas religious cult that was responsible for a number of murders as brutal as those committed by Eidola themselves.

However, the latest release from the group is practically a 180 degree turn on the group's typical behaviour, and the new policy follows only one other known example in the galaxy, previously set by the pre-eminent galactic religion, Alissma. Our reporters were able to contact Ruetsavii'taa Breden of Alissma, and he was pleased to answer a number of our questions.

When asked to explain the precedent that Eidola appear to be following, he gave the following statement. "Alissma has been holding the - hopefully former - heretic Sharon Ugon for approximately 5 months now, and allowing her to make amends for her previous behaviour by working as a productive part of Alissma."

We then asked the Ruetsavii'taa to elaborate on the circumstances that brought Sharon Ugon into Alissma's custody. "When the DarkLights group reformed earlier this year, Alissma made no secret of our desire to see the group brought to justice. While we were not directly involved in the operations to capture these misguided individuals, Sharon Ugon was captured by The Antarian Rangers, whom we have strong ties with. We offered an alternative to a long term of imprisonment, to both Sharon and the Rangers, and they accepted. Sharon has obvious gifts for dealing with people and inspiring loyalty, and I immediately recognised the potential for these abilities if they could be directed down a constructive path."

Ruetsavii'taa Breden went on to elaborate about Sharon's accommodations. "Sharon has been kept under a planetary shield on a small outpost we maintain. She has had full freedom to move around the surface, and access to an apartment facility we have their, which she has actually supervised the renovation of into a far more aesthetically pleasing design. She has also been installing blast doors, for the protection of the residents, and was provided with a personal medic to ensure her good health."

We pointed out that these were far different conditions from those Eidola had supplied their prisoner with, and were met with a laugh. "Eidola is still Eidola, even if they are adopting less brutal policies. The galaxy can only hope that this is the first, small step to a softening of the blackest hearted pirates known to the galaxy, although more likely it's just another scam - this time for P.R."

While the fate of Sharon Ugon is a story that never hit the Galactic News Service - Alissma preferring to deal with the matter in-house - it is probably one of the worst kept 'secrets' of recent years, and it seems highly unlikely that any group attempting to keep itself informed of goings-on in the galaxy, especially the Eidola pirates, would be ignorant of it.

Alissma and Eidola have a very mixed history. While Alissma has never made an overt move against Eidola, they have long refused to contract with pirates, and even established an anti-piracy fund, which was initially supported with donations from churches and temples owned by Eidola themselves, which Alissma refused to send any credits from to Eidola. They have also - unlike other religious groups - refused to construct additional places of worship for Eidola. More recently, we saw Eidola take advantage of temporary anarchy on an Outer Rim Excavations planet where the population had converted to belief in Alissma due to the construction of a new temple, which can definitely be seen as an aggressive action against the faith.

Ruetsavii'taa Breden offered these closing remarks. "If Eidola wishes to know any more about Alissma policies, all they have to do is approach me. However, I would need to see a gesture of sincerity from them before I am willing to believe they are really attempting to change, and not just trying to soften their appearance to the galaxy in order to pull off bigger schemes in the future."
