I own a DST and understand that it can be an NPC ship if it is unassigned.
I also understand that it is given certain skill levels if it made into an NPC ship. My question is, how do you operate the ship so that you can have it travel somewhere without actually flying it with your character?
My current situation is this: I need to get my DST to Location A. I am currently traveling to the DST in a YT-1210. Once I arrive at the DST; assuming that the DST is a Military NPC as described in the rules under NPCs, Is there anyway I can have them both to travel to Location A when there is only one pilot (me) available?
I believe both of your vessels must be of the same type, though I may be mistaken.
As to the rest, look under NPC's in the rules for more, but basically:
NPC - Ships will only have the following data:
Fighter/Freighter Piloting: Level 1
Fighter/Freighter Space combat: Level 1
Fighter/Freighter Air combat: Level 1
Targeting (space): Level 1

Rogren, I can assure you I have looked in the rules. I already said that I know the Military NPC would have given skills. What the rules don't mention in detail is how the NPC ships work and that is my question. The rules have simply identified/classified what an NPC ship is, and I already understand this.
Making a ship NPC, is different than an actual NPC. You need more than one ship of the same type (limited to certain ships) The ship that has been turned NPC, follows the ship you command.
So therefore, you can not send a ship to certain spot by itself.
since this has already been brought up, what ships and vehicles can currently be piloted by NPC's? I was under the impression that only fighters can be NPC controlled. yet nobody objected to the idea of the drop ship freighter being controlled by an NPC, only that it can't follow a different ship. I think it would be important to know exactly what ships can and can't be NPC piloted at this point in time.
NPC Ships: Fighter-Class, Lambda Shuttle, Sentinel Shuttle, Escort Shuttle and Drop Ship Transport.
NPC Vehicles: All Armed Vehicles, Skiffs and the Imperial Barge QH-1
Thank you for your helpful post Ranma. Unfortunately, it looks like I won't be able to transport my DST unless I have someone else with me or another DST. Both of which aren't the case for me at the moment... Oh well.
Ok after reading this thread I'm totally confused.
You can set a ship of the same type as npc controlled. Does that mean that it is not necessary for me to have an NPC pilot character on board the NPC'ed vessle in order for it to follow you.
Example: I have two Tie fighters. I don't have an NPC character who is a pilot. I sit in one Tie fighter and then go to managed piloted ships. I set the other Tie fighter that is in the same location as I am to NPC controlled. This Tie fighter will now follow me where ever I go.
Thanks to anyone who can clear up my confusion! :)
