I am curious, why is the traveling times set as they are? I can understand some delay is good since some factions may not have many members online at certain times and as such it would be unfair for them to get jacked while they are offline. But it seems to me that it's a bit too long. Flying from one sector to another looks to dake many days. And even going across a planet from city to city can take days, even in a speeder.
So why exactly are the travel times set to what they are? Why not 50% less, or 50% more even?
Seems like over say a month of real life time you might spend a few hours at best actually playing. Granted I'm pretty new to this, but I am simply curious as to why it was decided to be as it is.
Partly it's to prepare for combat. Given the time battles are likely to be taking, faster travel would make it too easy to reinforce weak forces before they were completely overwhelmed.

Going across a planet is a LOT faster in a ship since you can ascend and descend instead of using Cross Terrain, and each of those steps only requires an hour.
The best way to decrease your travel time would be by acquiring a faster ship - the times are not going to change, and travel is not supposed to be instantaneous. You aren't missing out on much anyway since there are not many features available yet to the average player.
3 hours is less than the refire times on many (most?) weapons. Therefore, you could be fired at, call your friends for help, and be reinforced before another shot was fired. Days and weeks are the only reasonable way to prevent unrealistic situations like that.
And before you ask, combat takes so long to attempt to account for timezones, and people having to work/sleep/go to school. Otherwise most people getting shot at would be dead before they logged in again.

I don't have any travel means by my feet. My question is, is travel XP assigned by distance traveled or by time in transit? I though I would figurethis out by walking to another city, but I only got one XP for those 5.25 hours. Which is whacked out on a whole other level, but I'll deal with that.
EDIT - Whoops, already a post about that. Still, walking to another city should be more than one XP. Yeesh.
