Star Wars combine may be the answer for years of prayers from a group of mature professionals that due to their careers and personal life had to split (geographically) making real time role playing games as well as ANY role playing games impossible since 1997.
We are all on our late 20s - early 30s, all Star Wars fans and all willing to help and do the right thing. I already joines the art team and already started with my contribution...
So here is my question: How can we have all of our characters (somewhere between 5 and 10) playing together and taking advantage of the amazing SWCombine structure?
Do we request a "game master" to create a white scenario for us?
Do we request an Admin scenario, so it will be "the real deal"?
Do we request admin grants to one of us and become the Admin of our own thing? So far, in my opinion, that would be great.
Do we join a faction and beg for a "GM"?
I am the only one that joined the game so far, but would be really nice if the rest of my brotherhood could make this old dream come true.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. This is really important for us.
Thank you for your time Wilhelm. The fact that this game is a delayed real time brings happiness to my heart. After all, the time to be 100% commited into games having real life as a second priority (unfortunately) has long passed.
So, based on what you said, let's see my options...
I cannot request AS.
I cannot become Admin.
I will not have the funds/resources to put together a faction for....Who knows. So that option is at least on hold for a while.
If We join a faction, apparently we will be deployed into different ships...so White scenarios will be inconcistent with " reality" (does that make ANY sense?).
well, I think the best (only) option is to do my homework reading the WS rules and try to get al my buddies into the same faction in hope that, somehow, somewhere in time we will all receive some commom assignment.
Now, one last question
I can bring aproximately 100.000 new players to this game. Would we benefit from more players or not? Do you guys want more people signing up?
You could become an Admin, however it would most likely take years to reach that goal.
With the possible exception of fighter squadron commanders stationed onboard a capship, yes it is highly likely you would be stationed in different locations and on different ships. The reason for this is the fact that you only need one player character per fighter squadron, one player character per freighter, and one player character per capship.
You CAN, however, be stationed with the same fighting units (fleets, squadrons, brigades, whatever)
Remember that Whites and Meeting Hall scenarios are just for fun, though you get XP for White Scenarios. Missions could be for spec force operations, before you joined a faction, whatever (so long as it's reasonable).
As for the player numbers, I'm sure the Administration would appreciate you spreading the word of the Star Wars Combine around. Keep in mind that MANY of the factions need more members, not just the GE, not just the RA, not just any that you join.
While joining the same faction as friends can be fun, playing as enemies can be fun too.
Also the location in the white scenario and the combine does not have to match.
For example, I started playing a WS at some distant planet as a Biotech employee while I was cruising around the galaxy for Biotech. During the WS I even started my own faction in the combine, this had no influence in my role in the scenario though.
That's what I was trying to avoid Derek, a game inside a game.
So pretty much, SWC (at least for now) can be defined as a bunch of ships flying from point A to B, with single characters inside. If you want anything different than that, you have to play a game that is not really "for real", but you do get XP (that, at least for now) cannot be used for anything...
Don't get me wrong, I think this game has great potential and I am looking fwd to help in any possible level. It's just kinda hard to understand the "what you can do, what you cannot" so far.
On the other hand, please correct me if I am wrong, if I join a decent faction with members interested in RPing, We can run White scenarios that are based on current, "real" character position, etc. That may bring balance to my conflicted mind...
Now, WHo has the grants to issue XP in White Scenarios? Can we give"hints" and ideas? SO far, I think that joining a mature faction is 1/2 of the fun.
Can't wait to remove the "freelance" from my name.
Well, you also have to remember that RPing on a message board in what is an IC week can take MONTHS in real time. You can't really RP fully dedicated in that way.
The Combine is still under development, so yes, there are alot of things you can't do quite yet. Capships (until a later time when the NPCs are fully added) are assumed to have their crews working with the ship's pilot/commander. Same with fighter squadrons. There really aren't enough people in the game to fully staff ships and squadrons in any other way.
The White Scenario team, I believe, hands out the XP at the end of the scenario. Syn or someone would need to verify this, however.
There are a few factions that try to RP their tasks as much as possible with the present limitations. Others are merely meat markets for new players and exist only to grow and grow without real aim or direction. Read up on what you want to do and go from there. We've a wide selection.
Yes, there is a White Scenario staff which I lead from whom individuals are assigned to each of the scenarios to monitor them and score everyone's posts for XP. These tallies are submitted to me at the end and I distribute the XP to the participants.
