So here is my problem. I am trying to pilot my ship and get my NPC to follow. My NPC is in the other ships cockpit and I set the ship to be NPC controlled. When I move on the ground he follows me alright but when I try to ascend he doesn't come along. He is in my squadron during the ascent, up until we reach the atmosphere and he still shows up on the ground.
Yes he is a freighter pilot and yes the ships are the same. He even has the same skill as me, so I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if it is a bug. Any help?
To NPC pilot ships, you must be pilot of both of them. Go to your ship inventory and got to "Manage Piloted Ships". If the two ships are of the same type, set the ship you wish to follow you to "NPC Controlled". After that it will follow you.
You also have to make sure that the freighters are of the right class - not all freighters can be NPC flown - just the imperial ones like the lambda and delta, the DST and possibly a few others.
Thank you for your input Gentlemen, I went to the help channel on IRC and determined it to be a bug there. The freighters are of the same class and I did set it to NPC controlled. I just hope it can be fixed soon. Thanks again.
Ara, currently you do not need a NPC to fly your other ships.
In fact a NPC does not help you to squad your ships.
Be at the same position as the other ships and then go to your inventory (Manage Ships). Then check the check-box and pick "NPC manned" from the drop-down menu.
Then the ships are grouped and will follow you.
That should not cause an NPCd group of ships to split up. This has happened to a few other users since the time of this post as well, so this is definitely something a dev needs to look into.
Fortuna, I found out that I don't need the NPC either but I did do all that and no luck.
Orion, I even tried it in the forest and there were no shields in the city anyway.
Hal, like Syn said they are escort shuttles and sums up whats happening in her posts.
If someone finds out when they fix this please post it here. Also is it necessary for me to report this as a bug it sounds like people know about it already and I dont want to be redundant.
It is only necessary if it has not yet been reported, although even if it has, adding a bug note to explain that the same thing is happening to you and including a quick explanation of your situation can't hurt. Just lends credibility to the situation for the devs to realize that multiple people are experiencing this.
Ara, one other thing I might try were it me in your situation. I might try commanding the squadron from each of this ships, see if it works from any. Shouldn't make a difference, but then again this problem isn't suppose to happen either.

I would like to add that I am having the same problem, only in reverse. I am also in a Delta, with other Deltas following along, and they will not follow me from the atmosphere down to the planet surface.
