You don't necesarrily need to fly, as certain factions have ground based actions. You can also go for the political type of play, but if you want to gain XP fast, piloting a ship is the way to go. Piloting it pretty fun, but that's my opinion.
Yeah you will find it very hard to get anywhere and when you get there all other skills is suffering.
For future reference
Trust me you will get more happiness in this galaxy after a ride into a sun with those skills, there are those brave people that have years on them to repair the damage but heh sorry to give it to yeah, it is not worth it. Make sure to always have at least 4 in Starfighter-Freighter Piloting and Leadership 3 along with Computer Operation 3 from there you can build a character that lasts more then it takes to correct that error you made. 21 days of waiting is nothing in comparison to the time it will take you to repair that damage if ever repairable.
Clear skies to you
or if you stick with it - Happy crawling
Talak, that advice of yours can render a character completely useless for certain jobs. Granted, those jobs are not implemented yet, and neither are the skills, but a repair guy can actually become very usefull in the future, so can an R&D guy or a soldier.
piloting 4... meh, 2-3 is already plenty. Besides, what good will piloting do you if you don't know how to pull the trigger to fire your weapons?
The point I am making is, you should try to make a character with the most usefullness when the game is finished, not with what is currently implemented... as that's not even 30% of all the options.
I made that an example of how you could distribute skill points with F/F 4 I do get faster from point A to point B and as such I gain my XPs faster and I can from there build my character a bit faster. My example there works great for the future; If combat is ever introduced as in highly doubtful it leaves you an option to be a good soldier and still fly a ship.
F/F 4 is far from useless in darkness regardless of game status.
As in running from something hostile IF combat is ever introduced sometimes and often I would say most people would turn rather then go head on against squadrons of fighters.
I use it to get fast from point A-B where people need arresters I move faster then most enemies I encounter and as such I have an advantage when they drop their building crews I’ve already been there preparing my welcoming committee a few days or at least hours. I am also a quick hauler and can be put on the job to transport RMs without my employee going berserk while someone builds their tower in their precious little pond of ugly cities for control.
The combo above - you can do a quickie from this example level 10 is rather easy to reach and is not impossible you will have what probably would make the difference. Space Targeting 2 Space Command 2 Starfighter-Freighter Space Combat 2 Starfighter-Freighter Air Combat 2 Air Command Ships 2. Take the same character and you have everything wasted in skills that maybe never get activated well logic tells me to go for A.
Still you will have plenty of time to put the extra points out as in good 2s over affected skills with the combo above you get a good start if distributed the right way around.
A technician is worthless until at least I see more then brainstorming being delivered so yes it is worthless occupation as for now, you can get skill points faster with certain combos and with that have an advantage over today’s or yesterdays templates and still become a good technician if ever introduced to this game that is more occupied with economics then the war in star wars and as such sending anyone head first into this madness of things being useful in the future is not right, at least not in my humble opinion. There are lots of sun divers out there even amongst veteran players has came to the conclusion that they been wasting their time with useless characters and can do a rather quick and easy way past all red-tape by recreating.
