I know they pull you out of hyper but does this work in the same way as aborting hyper, i.e. Is there a chance I will be pulled out of hyper and straight into a sun/planet which will kill me, or does it simply pull me out of hyper and into an empty square with no risk of death?
Titanes, since the risk in aborting is hitting a sun, and any empty system with an interdictor in it should have no sun, then I assume there's no risk. I'm not entirely sure if or how they work in an existing system, since ships should be avoiding the gravity wells of those systems anyway.

"May the Grace of Ara go with you, and His Vengeance be wrought upon your enemies."
I may have phrased my question wrong and caused confusion, but the question was related to them being used in systems with planets etc. not empty ones.
I thought that they would be being avioded anyway as well with them having gravity wells but I'm sure that I have heard talk of people being pulled out in a system with several planets and suns.
Maybe the current travel system simply doesn't take planet gravity wells into consideration, and maybe planet gravity wells only stop people going to hyper rather than sucking ships out of hyper.
