I had never used IRC at all until a few days ago, and downloaded Colloquy for mac. It's something I'd recommend, being nice and straight forward to use.

No, they don't make mIRC for Mac. They make several IRC clients, which, as Ten pointed out, can easily be found with a simple Google search.

I recommend X-Chat Aqua.
