okay, so say i have a ship in orbit of a planet, but i'm on the surface. how can i get to it? is there a taxi service, or something?

If there's a landing pad or hangar you can spawn a CP ship to get there. If you have some friends who would come pick you up that would work as well. If there's a starport on the planet you can use the NPC shuttle service to go from ground to a ship you're piloting in orbit.
