I'm trying to dock at the New Republic Academy station, but always recieve the 'there is nowhere you can dock'-type message. What am I doing wrong?

You don't actually have to dock at the academy. Just get on the crewlist, so you can enter the facility. I don't know who's running the Academy anymore, used to be Kit Lorcan.. but that was a while back. Wedge Achilles should be able to help you further. Looks like he's replied to your Academy post on their forums already.
