Is that not requesting thread necro?
Also it saves us having tonnes of threads on the same topic, locking it doesn't help why can't it just be left go away on its own again like it did the first time?

As the person who wrote those rules it was intended at the time that people could revive old topics that went unresolved so as to avoid repeated discussion of points already covered.
I'm not sure why others have decided the meaningful revival of still relevant threads is grounds for closure.
