I was in hyper 4 days, just exited and got absolutely no EXP for it. I was modifying some locks in of the docked ships during the trip, can this be the reason for the 0 EXP received?

“Note -

If your ship has an astromech droid in the cockpit and the pilot unboards, the droid will take over piloting and the ship will not stop travelling. The previous pilot will not get the XP for the travel.

I believe you are correct.

If you're in the ship at the moment it exits hyperspace, you'll get XP. Otherwise, no.
