I've made a total of 2 GNS posts, which I posted, completly in character as far as I am concerned. I made a type and Posted a players old name instead of his new characters name, IE Kier. Now I've received messaged and vicious attacks on my roleplaying and mental standing, and I've also received praise.
My question is, was my post Out of character/illigal at all, and if so, why?
My spelling and grammar have nothing to do with In or out of character, I sliped and used an old name instead of the new one. And I can complain if I like on the GNS, I have computer opperation and credits, And I do fail my hacks sometimes.
I have in character reasons for my posts, and they were aimed at the public galaxy to start movements against Eidola. I know that I am in a pirate group, People can do with that what they will. I used Eidolas bad rep to my advantage, and used the raptor pirates fairly unknown danger level as well. As per the rules, my post is legal save for the slip I made.
I Just want a reason why people feel it is bad roleplaying for me to use my characters skills and personal feelings to start a movement against personal enemies?
Perhaps someone can answer that without defaulting to me making a slip and sounding like I'm whining?
Ok, let me do it this way then. I roleplay in real life, Dungeons and dragons mostly, and some BESM 2nd ed revised (None of that 20 junk they put out for it). I roleplay within my faction. I encounter problems that are hard for me to get around because of lack of functionality. As such, any mouthy new recruit to my group can come abord my ship, and stick his toung out at the 17th level lightsabre duelist and walk away unharmed.
So instead of being upset that people are bashing me, or whine, let me ask for help. How does one roleplay in that type of situation properly without being able to take action?
I haven't done any forum or sanctioned roleplaying on the forums here since back when Anti-tarkin was head of the RS's. I support the combine with donations from time to time, and I've been around here for a long time. I want to be able to enjoy roleplaying here, and likewise, I want people to enjoy roleplaying with me.
The style here is different then I'm used to I guess, so what can I do to improve?
Enough with the pointing of fingers, I already said I made a post that broke the rules because my head wasen't clear. People make mistakes. If you want to make fun of me for making a mistake, try the message center under suguestions.
I'm asking for people to give me input on how to improve my roleplay. Not where the rules that I broke are posted, or for people to keep whining.
Okay, let me approach this from a different angle. I felt that the main problem with your posts was not that they broke rules, or were poor RP, but that it was stupid (it, not you). Let me explain.
You're saying the galaxy should do something about Eidola. Okay, fine, a valid suggestion, except for a few things:
- Telling people that they need to do something about Eidola is like telling them they need to shower every day. Pretty much everyone knows, and many have tried it. The difference between showering and doing something about Eidola is that showering works!
- You're a year or more behind the ball. Most people have known that something needed to be done about Eidola a long time ago.
- You don't actually SUGGEST anything. If you want to rally people against Eidola, then provide a direction or focus. Don't say "I can try to find out where they are" and "I would attempt to destroy them", just POST information! Go and KILL somebody in Eidola, then make as "they're not immortal! If I can kill them, you can too!" post.
- You're making a general post (at least in your first one) and not responding to a specific event.
Now, let's look at the rest of your post. Yes, most people hate Eidola, but moreover, they hate pirates and thieves in general.
- Eidola are pirates, you're pirates. It's a pot and kettle situation.
- Eidola are far more PUBLICALLY "successful" pirates than you are. They get to post a lot about the things they've stolen, the people they've killed, the hostages they've taken, and so on. Now I know that what the public sees is often not all of a faction, it's activities, etc, but image is a big thing in the Combine.
- Following on with Eidola's activities and public image, your post seems like envy! The appearance is that they're better pirates than you are, and you're jealous! Eidola's e-penis is bigger than yours, and you're throwing lame insults through insecurity. Again, I'm talking about appearances, since without an in-depth psycho-analysis of you, nobody can say for sure what your motivations are.
When it comes down to it, there is no "meat" to your posts. They're wishy-washy and pointless.
If you want to be taken seriously, make a serious post, with CONTENT.
____________
"May the Grace of Ara go with you, and His Vengeance be wrought upon your enemies."
I realized the implications of both our factions being pirates, I was tring to get people to move against them by making people view them as something more then pirates, Terrorists to be exact. I am behind doing something against Eidola because Its only recently that their posts make my character frustrated.
I appreciate the input but again, no one has helped me direct my apparently bad roleplaying in a beter direction, they have only pointed out that they didn't like my posts, and that they feel it has flaws.
Since its obviously hard to get help without explaining myself, I'll go ahead and do that.
Again, as I've said before, Eidola has a much more infamus relationship with the galaxy then the raptor pirates do. You'ld be hard pressed to find anyone who says anything bad about our faction. My posts were more of a personal thing, since Eidola formed from a group of pirates who split off from the raptor pirates a long time ago, and a few of their members are actualy X-Raptors. I myself have a reputation different then my group does, and I was hoping someone would recognize it and feel that I had at least a little power that people could get behind and such.
I do regret typing in the wrong name in my post as well. So again I ask, How do I roleplay a rather powerfull individual character when I cannot use any of the things that make him intimidating? How do I roleplay to mouthy newbies who like to come up to me in a room and kick me in the shin?
-I'd be hardpressed to find anybody who says ANYTHING about the Raptor Pirates, except recently a few "Wow, shitty GNSers"
-"Eidola formed from a group of pirates who split off from the raptor pirates a long time ago" isn't even remotely true...this is an OOC forum, so propaganda is pointless. Eidola's only real contact with RP has been a brief talk amongst various pirate groups about possibilities of an alliance.
-Cysandra's *last character* was in Raptor Pirates, almost two years ago. The next closest connection would be Monso who was a Storm Sec bitch for a while.
You're now looking bad *OOC* because you apparently don't know the first thing about game mechanics
" How do I roleplay a rather powerfull individual character"
Try actually *being* a powerful character, try to have some influence, maybe kill some people, raid a ship, hell, buy something. Do *something*. Don't ask how to appear powerful, because frankly, even though you're FS, I think 100% of the galaxy outside Raptors would agree you *aren't* any kind of a major or powerful character.
In the interest of avoiding a flame war from breaking out, I'm going to close this thread. The original question (My question is, was my post Out of character/illigal at all, and if so, why?) has been answered, and this isn't an advice column. How you choose to roleplay your character is up to you, and a few players have already given some decent advice. If this interests you, I would suggest contacting them further, or sitting down for a chat with anyone whose opinion you seek out on the matter. This really isn't the place for it, since your roleplaying style is a personal choice (outside of the rules-breaking aspects - which, again, already covered).
