If someone owns a creature, and no one else is set as handler or whatnot, what happens to the creature if the owner drops or dies? Can they be claimed? Or do they end up on the npc market? Or do they just sit there as npc creatures or go *poof*?

I would guess they follow (or should) follow whatever happens with NPCs.

Just tested it on dev some since I'd been wondering about it too. Looks like they are deleted, regardless of whether or not they're assigned/squadded.

There should be a 24 hour timer before they start eating their owner's body for sustenance.

Thanks Syn!

Isn't that an oversight/bug? Nothing else just gets deleted, does it?

NPCs do, and creatures follow pretty much all the NPC rules.

Shame, considering how valuable and much harder to get creatures are.

Even more incentive not to die when you get one.

It'd make more sense if they went to the handler or turned feral(I suppose the feral thing would have to wait for ground combat as some of them would be in ships and whatnot).

Rules say that assigned NPCs go to whom they're assigned to, is that false then?

I can check it on dev in about a week when I have a home again unless someone wants to do it in the meantime. :p The death rules used to be accurate--I specifically recall sitting down with a coder and having them check the coding for each point so the page could be corrected--but perhaps the squad coding and related changes have modified it.
