Can a merchant space dock be used as the starting HQ for faction creation? Or is it only able to be used as an HQ when you meet the requirements to build a second.

You shouldnt be able to even have on of those, so starting a faction with one isnt possible unless there is a bug. You can use it as your sole HQ once you build one when your faction is established

Like any HQ, you cannot start with one. Unlike ground based HQs there is currently no system to convert an existing station (I believe) into a MSD. You'll just have to either recycle your starting HQ and build the MSD with the DC it gives you and live in limbo for a bit with reduced faction features, or get an increased membership to get a second DC.

Ellias, you can build the MSD while having a regular ground HQ.

It is not an ignorant question. It cannot be the "starting" HQ as in the first one you need to start a faction, but you should be able to build one after your faction is created and use it as a spawn HQ or starting point for new recruits that are just joining and want to spawn at your Headquarters. This is its intended functionality, but it is just not currently working as intended despite news to the contrary.

Does anyone who owns or runs a faction have a Merchant Space Dock and have it verified as usable as a new combine member spawning location as intended?

My apologies then. But I don't see where it says it should be used as a Starting Location for new members. The Sim News only says that when the system checks for HQ, it counys MSDs and you can use MSDs as the destination for NPC transport.

We , Dukha Industrial , have an MSD and had problems a few months ago getting a new member to spawn. I'd be happy to test it out if admin can let someone new spawn and try it.

Our most recent try at a member spawning in our MSD.

Your faction (Dukha Industrial) has 1 HQs but none are open to faction members. Atleast one must be set as open-to-faction or open-to-all. (Until then, any new members can spawn at any HQ).

Kain Eckert of Dukha Industrial has changed the access level to Open to Faction for the following station:
- Merchant Space Dock Dukha HQ (ID# 14907) Total: 1

They're for NPC transports to head to, not spawning. Pretty sure that's been said in this thread already.

no they are to act as full HQs and allow spawning, that was what was announced anyway, but ages ago there was a sim news saying it was broken and not to use it til it was fixed
