The Wampa is a semi-sentient reptomammal native to the frozen wastes of Hoth. They are carnivorous in nature, and dominate the food chain of their homeworld as the apex predator. Thick white fur serves to keep the Wampa warm, and their four limbs are tipped with razor sharp claws effective for both digging through sheets of ice and disemboweling prey. Their mighty jaws are lined with fangs, and adult specimens are known to possess short, curving horns that begin to grow shortly after adolescence. Towering over most sentient species, the average Wampa stands at a height of 2.5 meters, and typically weighs 150 kilograms.
Wampas are typically solitary hunters, and prefer to ambush their prey, utilizing their natural camouflage to blend seamlessly into the snowy environment, and tracking their quarry with a keen sense of smell. A rapid pounce and a single blow from their clawed forearms is usually sufficient to disable even the largest of prey before the Wampa is ever spotted, after which the unconscious victim is lugged back to the predator's den to be stored in the icy cavern and consumed at leisure.
Despite their preference for solitude, Wampas are also capable of working together quite well, sometimes forming small packs to hunt or banding together with others nearby to destroy anything they deem a threat. In this capacity, many have shown a level of rudimentary intelligence unexpected in such a lethal creature, with some witnesses reporting Wampas scouting settlements before attacking in force.
