A laboratory is a place where physicians and scientists gather together to perform research. It is in this structure that the medical and scientific community practice a variety of activities, such as developing new variations of bacta, analyzing extinct races, and studying the effects of drugs. Despite most of these facilities being standardized and able to accommodate forty staff, there are some that have been customized to fit certain requirements and studies. For example, there are notable institutions that have been specialised towards studying viruses, creatures, or cybernetics.
When healthcare professionals take samples and data from the field, they can send it to one of the medical company sponsored labs for analysis. Or they can even visit the laboratory and use its equipment should they wish to study their samples themselves. As the facilities are equipped with both a docking bay and hangar bay, existing and visiting personnel are provided a secure place to store their ship or vehicle. These facilities are also capable of holding up to two hundred people, which is ideal for those studies with a lot of participants or specimens.
Laboratories can be found on planets throughout the galaxy and their secrets are usually guarded by high levels of security. A small number of these facilities are allowed to function outside the law, working on dangerous or controversial research. Most however, are regulated by local government services who are motivated by moral discussion and safety concerns. Using the latest advances in science, these buildings are vital to the progression and maintenance of civilized life across the galaxy.
