Last Updated: Year 16 Day 364
Planet: Farahiyn
Table of Contents [hide]

The first planet from the Ansion sun and the largest in the system, Farahiyn is a massive gaseous planet. Methane and tibanna, the two most abundant resources in the planet’s atmosphere, routinely mix with each other in giant swirls, forming a myriad of patterns in the sky with some as large as planets themselves. When exposed to direct sunlight, bright auroras in hues of purple and red spring to life over the intermixing elements. As these storms traverse into the night, the radiant glow slowly turns to shades of blue and green, the chemical reaction reversing itself as the warmth of the sunlight dissipates in the falling temperatures.

A strong magnetic field protects the planet’s gasses from being stripped away by Ansion’s stellar winds. While Farahiyn’s atmosphere is composed primarily of tibanna and methane, the core is composed of dense metallic hydrogen in the liquid phase, which enables the presence of the strong field. Periods of stellar flare activity have on occasion threatened the integrity of the planet’s magnetosphere, prompting concerns that the gaseous atmosphere might ignite and turn the planet into a miniature star temporarily. Local experts however believe the sun to be entering a period of low flare activity that is anticipated to last several thousand years, calming the concerns of possible planetary destruction.

The abundant deposits of tibanna have fueled the development of the advanced floating cities of Farahiyn. Due to the volatile and dangerous nature of the unique chemical reaction that occurs in the sunlight, most of the cloud cities use highly efficient turbines to maintain a position on the night side by staying in motion with the rotation of the planet. While lacking any sort of day cycle, the semiregular auroras do cast light onto the cities. Festivals are held during the times of the year that the nightly glows are brightest and most colorful, leading to a large number of tourists from neighboring planets to all across the galaxy. Potential visitors are encouraged to review the aurora forecast before making their travel plans. Those who are interested in seeing the brighter radiances in the daylight may book tour vessels, with the appropriate disclosures and waivers. Less adventurous tourists can enjoy the night sky from the comfort and safety of the promenades under glass domes, complete with refreshment stands and live music.
