Planet: Ruusan

The planet Ruusan is known for the famous Ruusan Campaign between the Army of Light, commanded by Jedi Lord Hoth, and the New Sith Empire's Brotherhood of Darkness, led by Lord Kaan during the New Sith Wars. The campaign consisted of seven battles fought on the planet surface, the last of which led to the destruction of both armies when the Sith unleashed their Thought Bomb, devastating Ruusan's population, ecosystem, and climate.

Ruusan was originally a temperate, breathable planet settled by Human miners, farmers, and trappers as part of a wave of expansion and colonization within the Teerab sector. Although the planet was found to have limited mineral resources, the discovery of the Ruusan crystal did prove to be a priceless gem and quickly became coveted by Force users for its ability to allow them to better focus the Force. The planet's native creatures, known as the Bouncers, were globe-like and tentacled creatures covered in green fur. They were gifted with mild telepathy and were able to feel the Force, which gave them prophetic abilities and dreams of the future. During the New Sith Wars, the Bouncers did not take sides in the fight, although they aided both sides in healing after the battles and projected comforting images of support to the wounded.

The Ruusan campaign ended when Lord Kaan, in a desperate attempt to end the war, performed an ancient Sith ritual to unleash the full volatility of the dark side of the Force in a Thought Bomb which, when detonated, absorbed the souls of every Force-sensitive being within its bounds. It also drastically changed Ruusan's ecosystem: the planet became largely arid wastelands and deserts.

After the Battle of Ruusan, the Jedi Knight Johun Othone constructed a great mausoleum for the fallen warriors named the Valley of the Jedi. Othone filled the Valley with statuary and memorials to honor the Jedi's victory in the Light and Darkness War, but the Republic Worlds slowly forgot the Valley and its ideals. A few centuries after the Battle of Ruusan, the Valley of the Jedi was still remembered, but its location was all but forgotten, remembered mainly by the Jedi. Isolation and crossbreeding, along with the devastation caused by the Ruusan Campaign, produced a near-human population that became known as Ruusanians.

After the devastation of the Ruusan Campaign, the planet became unimportant in the Galactic trading community. This led to a shift in hyperspace routes, leaving the planet isolated. Ruusan was recently rediscovered, attracting the attention of more Jedi, leading to pilgrimages to the Valley of the Jedi. There have also been scientific explorations to Ruusan's three orbital objects, known as the Three Sisters, where some ruins of an ancient civilization were found.
