Planet: Fondor
Table of Contents [hide]

The planet Fondor in the Tapani sector of the Colonies region is a craggy world of vast stone plains of rocky outcroppings and massive boulders strewn about haphazardly across its surface. With large parts of the globe subjected to heavy volcanic activity, Fondor is rich in natural ores and minerals which had led to the development of a vast and heavily automated mining industry that became the driving force behind the planetary economy. The world's native sentients called Fondorians resemble baseline Humans only in appearance - except for their hairless bodies - as the purple blood flowing through their veins distinguish them from their ancestral parent race internally quite significantly. Their society is divided into castes, with the lower caste-members often slaving away within the mines deep below the surface or the shipyards in orbit of the planet, while the Fondorians belonging to the highest castes are highly intelligent and regal beings with sharp minds for economics and finance.

Fondor is a slightly smaller world than most other planets, but has a standard gravitational pull due to its higher density as a result of the heavy planetary crust and core. The rocky orb has a rotational period of thirty-one hours and completes a full orbit around its primary in four hundred and twelve standard days. Despite its monotonous craggy landscape and lack of a diverse ecosystem, the planet is host to a number of non-sentient creatures, such as the amphibious Fondorian mud puppies living within regions of the planet with more frequent precipitation. Other notable fauna living on Fondor are endemic subspecies of granite and duracrete slugs, as well as packs of imported varactyls. The world's cave systems are the domain of the kell dragons that had been brought to the planet many aeons ago, and which adjusted well to its rock-bound environment. They are regularly hunted by the local Fondorians both as a form of population control to prevent them from terrorising nearby settlements, and as a favourite pastime of the elites and their offworld guests.

Despite the fact that Fondor is officially located within the Colonies, the planet's long history and highly reputable status makes it so that it is widely regarded as a part of the Core Worlds. The world was colonised long before the formation of the Galactic Republic by Humans from the Core, who eventually evolved into the Fondorians over the aeons, due to the different and unique living conditions on their new homeworld. After its initial settlement, Fondor was swiftly industrialised and urbanised in the millennia that followed, and attracted much wealth through commerce and trade as a primary hub along the Gandeal-Fondor Hyperlane. Massive shipyards were constructed in orbit of the planet that quickly gained intergalactic renown, and at one point even rivalled the construction facilities of Kuat and Sluis Van. Its economic markets attracted entrepreneurs and corporations from across the galaxy, with one of Fondor's most notable business partners being the Besadii clan of the Hutts. During the Clone Wars, the planet's ruling body the Guild of Starshipwrights had aligned their world with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, much to the disapproval of the Fondorians. As a result, productivity on Fondor took a massive hit and a period of economic recession followed from which the world's economy struggled heavily to recover. Other planets and systems quickly surpassed the manufacturing output of the Fondor Shipyards, leading to an emigration wave of Fondorians and other sentients. Today, the world's previous splendour and wealth is significantly diminished, with the extensive mining industry being the primary if not sole contributor to the planetary economy.
