While much of the dust and rock in a young planetary system are turned into planets, some of this material becomes smaller celestial bodies, such as a moon. Moons are generally small celestial bodies that revolve around a much larger planet. Unlike planets, which can be made of either gas or solid material, moons are made of rock and ice. Because of their size, though, they are generally only used as small colonies or military installations.
