Last Updated: Year 16 Day 364
Planet: Loedorvia
Table of Contents [hide]

Loedorvia was first discovered by scouts of a ranger organization in year 9 but remained unattended for quite some time after its initial discovery by two rookie lieutenants. One of those doing that survey went on to become governor of the planet. Since that early scanning, two colonies were established and another six cities soon followed. One luxury space colony was also established in high orbit and has remained there for a number of years. Both planet and system were taken over on year 10 day 220 in a military coup lead by the then Governor Baroness Ju-El Silverstar, who later went on to be known by the name of Valis Noir. It was she who, according to some reports, was "invited" by the populace to "liberate" them from the "tyranny of their overlords." She remained as Military Governor of Loedorvia and self-styled Arch Duchess of Binaros until the planet was annexed by the government of Black Sun, before coming into the hands of the current owner.

Loedorvia is a rather new world circling a new star within the Loedorvia system, which is located just at the outskirts of its own nebular stellar nursery. The night sky, rather than black with the twinkling stars familiar to most worlds, presents a panorama of color and light. One member of an archaeology party described it as, "A night long, sky-wide sunset." The night sky is about an evening dusk in its dimness but the colors are very vivid and new birthing stars shine through the gaseous clouds in colors of red and pink. An ancient star which exploded over a million years ago can still be seen burning out its last brilliance in the lower southwest of the night sky. The night sky is noted as being an impressive sight and scholars have stated that it must be seen first hand for the full impact.

Loedorvia is seen to be a simple world quite suitable for habitation by most humanoid life forms. Temperatures range from around 25 along the equator to -37 degrees in the polar regions. The more temperate zone tends to range between 9 degrees in winter to around 35 in summer The planet has most of its oceans frozen in its great northern and southern polar caps. One rather large sea can be found in its north-east region and, from various studies, it has been found to abound with a vast range of life.

An ancient temple has been excavated in the southern pampas and indications are that perhaps a town may be hidden within the surrounding forest. Hattori Hanzo University has noted it plans later to do a complete and formal excavation around the site. The temple itself is well intact but it is believed there will be found quite a trove of artifacts. There are also legends that a band of monks, a self-sustaining colony, settled this part of Loedorvia in ancient times. What they worshiped and whatever happened to them can not yet be told. The idea that the Galactic Empire opened and ran a research station beneath this temple has turned out, so far, to be somewhat of an urban legend.

Of the flora and fauna itself, about two-thirds of the equatorial range of the planet was covered by a great rain forest teaming with wildlife, and just south of that are situated vast pampas, also once having a wide range of wildlife. One example can be noted was the Binarian sabercat. This is a large feline, about 12' from nose to rump. Its eight muscled legs give it, if not speed, great strength in fighting. Its incisors can measure from four to six inches and can rip out the throat of anything smaller than a bantha. This cat can rear onto its hind four legs while attacking forward with teeth and the razor claws of the front four legs. The tail is equipped with a large barb but findings show this is used not in combat but in mating rituals only.

The remainder of the planet is covered in rocky, baron scrubland but this too could be found to hold many forms of reptiles, insects, and other lifeforms typical to such desert conditions.

Plants ranged from prairie scrub to climax deciduous forests. Many varieties of grass and flowering plants covered the pampas giving life to over one hundred thousand species of insects. Two noted plant forms are the Binarian carnivorous plant and the feeder plant. The first tends to lay in wait as a multi-limbed vegetable and snares its prey as it stumbles into the tentacles. The feeder plant sends out small, mobile, independent roots to scrounge for food to bring home to the mother plant. There was also a wide range of vibrant wildflowers, flowering trees and a number of succulent fruit trees. On one expedition alone there were recorded over 578 different flower species all within a 10-mile radius of the explorer's camp. It is theorized that many cures for the galaxy's ills lay within these plants of the pampas, not to mention the rain forest, which covered nearly one-third of the planet's equatorial region.

A great range of primates were to be found in the high canopy of the rain forest, with one expedition having logged over 153 species of monkey. In the lower branches of the rain forest, one will find a great range of brilliantly colored parrots, budgies, birds of paradise and many other. This rain forest was stated to be a true wonderland for science to keep pristine and to study.

An expedition from Hattori Hanzo University reported discovering a species of baboon which walks upright and ventures out and into the grasslands, hunting with spears sharpened from hardwood shafts they cut from the forest. They are noted as being organized into tight tribal units, each lead by an old matriarch. The basic rough hand-axe of flint or obsidian is reportedly the cutting edge of their civilization. The Hattori Hanzo University, Department of Anthropology has named the species Pithacanthropus Sagacious after its discoverer, Prof. Anolo the Sagacious, PhD.
