Planet: Toprawa
Table of Contents [hide]

Toprawa Prime, known for its humid daytime subtropical climate, is a world teeming with life, and the first planet to be settled on a permanent basis. With a population of millions, it is also the administrative center and governor's seat in the system. Days and nights here are of a seasonal length owing to the planet’s exceptionally slow rotation around its axis. “Day” resembles a short summer with a warm, humid climate, a heavy overcast sky, and ample rainfall. “Night” resembles a short, very dark winter with rather cold temperatures and ample snowfall. There are periods of more temperate climate and clear weather at sunrise and sunset, resembling spring and autumn. This directly aids in the formation of thick cloud layers on the side of the planet facing the sun, which raises planetary albedo and acts to cool the global temperature, despite the proximity to the star. Consequently, this also encourages periodic heavy rainfall and occasional, widely dispersed flooding.

The planet boasts two large continents: the hilly regions of Toprajj to the north; and the massive flatlands of Wahaba to the south. These are separated by the wide river Ennui - the water snake that connects via smaller tributaries, waterways, and wetlands to the ocean. This massive body of water is called Iun, which in the mysticism of local lore refers to the shadow aspect of the great water snake, which seeks to swallow all land. The diurnal cycles of the wetlands, as the mighty monsoons arrive, some spacers still steadfastly hold, are proof of the endless battle raging between land and sea – light and darkness - on planet Toprawa.

The world is dedicated to a program of ethical biodiversity in order to maintain its precarious conservational balance, and as a direct consequence remains almost an exclusive focus for scientific research. Domed cities dot the surface, and the vast majority of the population resides on the river Ennui; spread along a relatively narrow band of highly urbanized floating settlements.
