Geographically located roughly 10,000 light-years away from the galactic core, Coruscant is situated close to the center of the galaxy, and had been the galactic capital since the first days of galaxy-wide governments in this galaxy. The entire planet surface is one large city, layers and layers of structures are established upon the planet surface, and even the massive oceans were drained away into underground caverns and giant storage tanks for later reuse. Not too many people have actually set foot on the actual surface of this planet.
With a quite large number of residential skyscrapers reaching as high as six thousand feet, Coruscant boasts not only as the most densely populated planet, but also the planet with the largest population. The large population poses a major threat to Coruscant, as it dramatically changes the ecosystem, especially with the major changes mankind has done to this once green place, transforming it to a world-wide city. Carbon dioxide, the by-product of living organisms for instance, is one of such threats. As a solution, early Coruscant ecological engineers invented atmospheric dampeners, and equipped them with repulsors and various sensors, so that these dampeners are constantly monitoring their respective sections of the atmosphere and remove the excessive amounts of carbon dioxide as necessary. The lowest levels of the planet-wide city are largely uninhabited and have not seen sunlight for thousands of years. It is rumored that subhumans dwell the lower levels of the planet, but most attribute those tales as nothing but urban legends.
It is probably false to say that Coruscant is truly a planet-wide city. In actuality, the poles are not as densely populated as they are occupied by various ski resorts and other vacation spots. However, the poles surfaces are still artificial and not of natural craft.
Coruscant is also the standard for the galaxy. Coruscant date and time systems, for instance, are used as a galactic standard. Throughout the stars, one can often hear people referring to time as 1700 standard time; or perhaps referring to the amount of time it requires to complete a job as four standard hours. Language, too, is standard based on Coruscant, setting the Coruscani tongue as the Galactic Basic language, a language that is commonly agreed as the universal language that every school teaches. Other Coruscani units of measure that are ruled as galactic standard include, but not limited to, distance and weight units, seasonal references, and luminosity level of stars. Coruscant, being the seat of power for such a long span of time, is also the symbol of galactic control. Every rising government, whether the Old Republic, the Galactic Empire, or any rebellious group, wishes to hold Coruscant as their capital. The controller of this planet is often viewed as the legitimate ruler of the galaxy, asserting a powerful psychological effect to the countless number of sentient beings in the entire galaxy.
Some of the attractions at Coruscant include the Grand Towers, the Skydome Botanical Gardens, the one-kilometer long Grand Reception Hall, the underground city of Dometown, the Grandis Mon theater, the Holographic Zoo of Extinct Animals, the Galactic Museum, the University of Coruscant, the Candreal Gardens Center, the Imperial Security Operations Building, and the Temple of the Circle. Annual celebrations and festivals also draw an exceptional number of visitors to this planet, such as Carnival Week and New Years Celebration. The traditional Imperial Fair, involving parades and exhibits, is held at the Pliada di am Imperium every four years. During the Coruscant\'s ancient War Day celebration, laser cannons were fired off in ceremonial salute. Monument Plaza is a popular mall built around one of the peaks in the Manarai mountain range, where visitors can actually touch bare rock, perhaps the only location in all of the planet were a part of the planet surface is actually still visible without venturing into the deep underground. For the last three hundred years the clock in the Central Gathering Hall has marked the hour by spreading a light across the sky, and every evening spectacular gray-green and red auroras flash throughout Coruscant\'s atmosphere.
With the entire surface inhabited, wildlife is nearly nonexistent to Coruscant. Spider-roaches, rodents, and duracrete worms act more so as parasites to the planet than wildlife, perhaps the only animals left to the planet are a small number of species of birds that nests atop the atmosphere reaching towers, occasionally swooping down and grab the sandwich out of the hands of a unsuspecting pedestrian. Plant life is rare on Coruscant as well. With the exception of fungi and mosses in the damp lower levels, there is almost no natural plant life on his planet. However, a large number of public and private parks, gardens, and green houses provide just the amount of green the citizens on this planet need to soothe their sights.
