Planet: Marasa Asteroid Field
Table of Contents [hide]

The Marasa Asteroid Field separates the Marasa sun from its two planets, Marasai and Marasa. Due to the danger of traveling through the asteroid field, where minor collisions between asteroids are known to happen on a regular basis, very few sentients pass through it. At its birth, the system formed from a dense section of the Marasa Nebula. The materials which were not condensed into the two planets found within the system were pulled into a ring by the sun and formed the asteroid field. This means the majority of the asteroid belt is made up of small asteroids and fine dust, consisting of the same material that makes up the Marasa Nebula and creates its distinctive azure blue color.

The field does contain one large asteroid, "De Fillaazul", which means "The Blue Daughter" in the Marasan language. The name derives from the blue halo of light created by light reflecting off a thin layer of dust surrounding the celestial body. The surface of the asteroid is considered unimpressive by most sentients, being made of little more than rock. This is one of the primary reasons why De Fillaazul is devoid of any meaningful life; although while standing on the surface one can see the blue halo, giving the impression of a thin atmosphere even though one does not exist. Furthermore, the soaring temperatures while under direct sunlight and sub-zero temperatures while in the shade mean any settlements or facilities located on the asteroid have to be well protected and self-contained. Fortunately, De Fillaazul's orbit causes it to be distant from other asteroids in the field, and so collisions are almost non-existent, one of the few reasons why habitation is even possible. The fact that there is nothing of note to be found on the asteroid means it has very few visitors and is used for little more than as an outpost by the local authorities.

The danger of the surrounding nebula makes sightings of space-born species who like to inhabit asteroid fields, such as the formidable Space Slug or the Mynock, an extreme rarity. Although the young of Giant Plasma-fliers, space-faring creatures native to the Marasa system, have been known to venture in from the nebula. However, the lack of available food, primarily nebula dust and gas, between the planets causes the Plasma-flier to become distressed, forcing them to take refuge within the dust of the asteroid field. Unfortunately, they soon outgrow this source of sustenance and perish. Their malnourished bodies have been found floating amongst the asteroid field where they often become public attractions or end up in the hands of private collectors throughout the galaxy.
