Planet: Chandrila

If one were to look for a shining example of a genteel civilization, they would have to look no further than the planet Chandrila located within the Ringali Shell of the Bormea sector in the Core Worlds. Once, this celestial orb was an idyllic agriworld of rolling plains, verdant hillsides, and pristine oceans of a sky blue colour, whose natural beauty was often compared to that of Alderaan. Today, its surface is covered in its entirety beneath a seemingly endless urban sprawl rivalling even Coruscant, with vast stretches of the ecumenopolis consisting of elegant white and grey curves, aesthetically pleasing towers that reach up into the sky like the fingers of a gracefully presented hand, and orderly promenades and walkways that remain wholly untouched by even the slightest blemish. As a result, Chandrila presents itself to the galaxy as the jewel of the Core Worlds, and as one of the most cosmopolitan, cultured and educated planets that exist within the galactic plane. Thus, it should come as no surprise its global ecumenopolis with its blissful ambiance remains one of the most popular destinations of tourists and immigrants alike.

Yet, Chandrila's prosperity and beauty are not without their dark sides. The ecumenopolis is divided into various economic zones, with some areas dominated by industries such as chemical refineries and ore smelters, leaving the beautiful seas that once graced the planet's surface toxic and filled with waste. These zones stand in stark contrast to the high society areas, where the city's wealthy elites reside in sprawling mansions and enjoy all the trappings of luxury. At the same time, pockets of poverty exist, where the city's lower classes struggle to make ends meet, often living in cramped, dilapidated apartments and enduring difficult living conditions. While the planet may present itself as generally egalitarian and tolerant of aliens, with several minority communities of Twi'leks, Duros, and Chagrians among others living in the wealthiest and most prestigious zones of the planet, it is mostly non-Humans who inhabit the poorest and most polluted districts.

Despite its issues, Chandrila remains one of the most cultured and educated planets in the galaxy. Settled by Humans from Coruscant and neighbouring Core Worlds more than twenty-five thousand years ago, Chandrila was one of the founders of the Galactic Republic and one of the first agri-worlds to join its galactic government. Throughout the aeons, it remained a longstanding and highly respected member of the Galactic Senate, and produced many notable individuals that served both within the Jedi Order, or as leaders and pivotal figureheads within the Republic. Due to its position along the Perlemian Trade Route, the planet quickly grew to be one of the wealthiest and most prosperous worlds of the Core, and later even the galaxy. The Chandrilans became widely known across the Republic for their sophistication and genteel mannerisms, and who had developed their own elegant language and set of elaborate customs and traditions that were often readily adopted by cultures and peoples within and beyond the Core Worlds. Throughout its lengthy history, no major land battles had ever been fought on Chandrila's surface, save for a single space battle between the Republic and Sith Empire roughly four thousand years ago, during the events of the Great Galactic War. During the Clone Wars, the planet remained staunchly loyal to the Galactic Senate despite often being a voice for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Later, after the Republic's reformation into the Galactic Empire, Chandrila became a key economic and strategic Imperial world.
