Planet: Sissubo
Table of Contents [hide]

Once the most volcanically active of the worlds of the Chandrila system, Sissubo has long since abandoned its super-activity in favor of the much more amiable conditions that exist on its surface today. While the surface is still dominated by the remains of a volcano large enough to cover a large portion of the equator, Sissubo has mellowed enough that, without seeing the somewhat lopsided world from orbit, you would not guess the origin of the fertile fields and jungles which span the wide equatorial belt. Much like the other habitable worlds of the Chandrila system, Sissubo has large oceans that are well-populated with numerous species of fish and other aquatic creatures.

Of particular note is the Sissubian Snow Snake which dwells within the narrow bands of ice that cling to the poles. Usually an even-tempered creature, the Snow Snake is barely larger than a human finger but features an exceptionally complex digestive system that allows it to gain sustenance from the scraps of organic material trapped in the ice as it slowly burrows its way through the glacial sheets. Once every ten years though, the Snow Snake enters its reproductive cycle, where it burrows up near the surface and begins to create immense amounts of heat. This heat keeps a small pocket within the ice liquid and highly pressurized to form a spawning nest for the creature. While spawning, the Snow Snake becomes fiercely territorial and will attempt to kill anything that approaches to consume it and fuel its spawning cycle. Most natives and long time residents of Sissubo carry small thermo-sensors to alert them to the proximity of such heat sources should they be near the poles, but usually one or two people will go missing every year in the area.
