Huk is a warm, wet world located at the very edge of the Wild Space region of the galaxy. A mid-sized planet, Huk sits on the inner edge of the system's prime habitable zone, resulting in a hot and humid climate with no snow and no polar ice caps on the planet. The surface of Huk is covered in dense forests for the most part, though some lower-lying areas are covered in tropical jungle and several areas are covered in large bodies of freshwater as large as small oceans. Huk is rich in wildlife, and a traveler on the surface, walking under the hundred-meter tall trees would have a hard time carrying out a normal conversation due to the constant humming and chirping of insects and the calls of the birds and flying reptiles that eat them. There are no mammals native to Huk, although some non-native species have escaped from the exotic pet trade or from wildlife facilities damaged in the running wars with the Kaleesh in the nearby Kalee system.

Up until quite recently, these wars had had a heavy impact on the surface of Huk, as Kaleesh battlegroups frequently broke through the planetary defenses and bombarded the Yam`rii's forest homes. Fortunately, a relatively long period of peace has prevailed in the last four decades or so, and Huk's soil is incredibly fertile. Craters and ruined forests have been covered in new growth that is now almost indistinguishable from the old-growth trees around them and much of the planet's wildlife has recolonized the previously barren zones. The Yam`rii too have resumed their sylvan lifestyle, incorporating technology into their coexistence with the forests.

This blending of technology and nature has enabled the Yam`rii to sustainably harvest the forest for a host of natural resources, including valuable timber, alazhi, tree oils, and fruit, which have become the cornerstone of Huk's economy. These products are mostly shipped through the starport in the city of Y'rill, one of only two large urban areas on the planet, which is also home to most of the non-native population as well. Nowadays, a visitor is likely to find individuals of many species walking the streets of Y'rill. One would be very unlikely to encounter a Kaleesh though, for obvious reasons.
