Located in the Deadalis sector, Dorin is home to the Kel Dor race. Although nestled between two blackholes, the planet is a stop along various trade routes, such as the Celanon Spur and Namadii Corridor. Despite the planet containing very little flora and fauna, food is not a major import. The planet is governed by a republic with elected officials holding office for two years.
Capable of changing from hazy sky to violent lightning storms in a matter of minutes, weather on Dorin can be highly dangerous for a first time visitor. As each generation of Kel Dors came to understand these phenomena better, the construction technology implemented in their buildings became more durable. While it is not uncommon for Kel Dor to open their homes to their fellow citizens during these punishing storms, offworlders are often left to their fate, as a result of the Kel Dors' wariness toward other races.
Due to their natural affinity for the Force, the Kel Dorians developed Force teachings and techniques that coalesced into what they call the Baran Do. This organization consists of powerful master practitioners called the Baran Do Sages. Some of these sages have been capable of predicting changes in the weather before modern technology, resulting in prevention of serious damage and saved lives.
The planetary atmosphere, being toxic for oxygen-breathing species, consists of helium, a small amount of trace gases, and a still unnamed gas only found on Dorin. Scientific research has shown that this unique element plays the same role in Kel Dors that oxygen does in that of aerobic species, allowing for cellular respiration and enabling biological life. Because of this, however, the Kel Dors have evolved to be strictly adapted to their environment, and are required to wear antiox breath masks when off-world in order to survive.
Between 24 BCGT and 22 BCGT, during the First Galactic Civil War, Dorin was the target of several Separatist invasion attempts. The Confederacy of Independent Systems saw the world as a potential ally to the Galactic Republic, and thus a threat. Despite being led by some of the Separatist Alliance's more skilled commanders, the attacks were successfully countered by the Republic military. After the dissolution of the Republic, and its replacement by the Galactic Empire, the citizens of Dorin have mostly withdrawn from galactic affairs, keeping to themselves.
