Planet: Miser
Table of Contents [hide]

Miser is one of the three planets in the Bespin system of the Javin Sector that crosses orbit with Velser’s Ring, an asteroid belt. This planet is extremely hot. The planet itself is so hot, that the rock often melts and reforms in different states. This has given the planet some extremely large mountains and peaks, the highest of which is Mount Yorr, named after the system explorer’s accomplice, David Yorr. It has also created an extremely delicate cave system, which goes deep into the planet’s crust, and stretches for miles upon miles. It is rumored that beneath some of the mountains are even more caves.

Exploring this planet is possible, despite the extremely hot rock. During the day, which lasts 52 standard days, the rock is only a habitable temperature on the dark side of the planet. As daylight approaches, it becomes progressively hotter. Thus, any given terrain area has about a 7-day time span, in the deepest part of the night, at which it is hospitable. After that, the rock becomes almost too hot once again. At any given time, there is usually at least an area 4000 kilometers by 800 kilometers down one part of the planet which is habitable, as it would be night time there. This allowed the explorer Richard Velser to land and explore the planet, including deep within the caves and up into the mountains.

Several thousand years ago, Richard Velser arrived in the system, charting out the planets. He spent most of his time, however, here on Miser, where he was intrigued by the terrain that it had to offer. Although the planet had no signs of life whatsoever, he was not so sure. He believed that within the cave systems, which continued to go deep underground, life would be found. He had sent back to his base several brief reports about signs of sentient life underneath the rock, however, it was so deep that before he could investigate further, Richard Velser was forced to return to his ship or risk being burned by extremely hot rock as the day approached. Many other scientists, however, have refuted this claim, saying that no sentient life can live in such hot environments on a planet without an atmosphere. Due to Richard’s mysterious death on Orin, these claims were never confirmed.

Richard, after exploring the caves, decided that he would explore the mountains as well. He quickly scouted for the highest peak of the planet and waited in orbit until night time approached that area. Once it did, he and his accomplice David Yorr climbed the mountain, taking holopics of the vast terrain from the top of the summit. What he found on the pictures, was that the rock and craters seemed to move, as if underneath them was an underground cave system spanning across the entire planet. Unfortunately, on the way down, Yorr fell from a high cliff and perished, thus the mountain was named after Richard’s fallen friend.
