Planet: Gree
Table of Contents [hide]

The planet Gree is possibly one of the oldest inhabited and technologically sophisticated worlds within the galaxy to date. It is a rocky globe of shallow freshwater oceans, green verdant plains, and expanses of sandy dunes, with a small stretch of jungle land in the northern hemisphere, and a couple of misty bogs in the southern reaches of the planet. Its seas are home to myriad species of freshwater fish that feed the local population and fauna, like the recently imported thrantas from Alderaan, or endemic subspecies of dianoga. In addition, the abundance of non-saline water within the planetary hydrosphere makes Gree an important exporter of potable water within its local interstellar neighbourhood. The world used to host a much more prevalent urban sprawl across its surface before societal decay caused many of these settlements to be abandoned, after which those lands were reclaimed by nature. Nonetheless, Gree still harbours a number of metropolises in which the native population of the planet has resided for aeons.

Gree is the homeworld of the people of the same name. They are an ancient sentient race of six-tentacled, grey-skinned cephalopods whose civilization predates even the Rakatan Infinite Empire. The natives of Gree have oversized heads when compared to other baseline humanoids, but their most distinct feature is their six tentacles, with each pair having a different and specific purpose. The uppermost pair of tentacles was reserved for precision work and fine manipulation. The middle pair was primarily used for more heavy lifting, while the final lowest pair was used for movement. In addition, the Gree have always been divided into four distinct castes. The Crafters were responsible for the production of the technologies that the Researchers developed and designed, and these two castes were the first to disappear from Gree society. The Operators are responsible for the manipulation and operation of the Gree devices and technologies, which they refer to as “playing” in the same way one would play a musical instrument. The Administrators see to the day-to-day governance of their people’s world and society and function within the government apparatus.

According to the meticulously kept historical records of the Gree, their homeworld’s civilisation had reached its apex more than thirty thousand years ago. Nearly all members of this species considered the planet Gree as sacred ground, regardless of whether they had been born there or on one of their people’s colonies. As a result, the planet maintained its position as the cultural heart of the Gree for many millennia, and was strenuously shielded against alien influences by barring all non-Gree races access from their homeworld across galactic history, barring a couple of extremely rare exceptions. Yet, its highly isolationist policies and singular focus on teaching its members how to use the fabled and legendary technologies instead of improving upon it, eventually led to the decline of Gree society. Over the last four millennia, the cities on their revered homeworld were gradually abandoned as the Gree population became smaller in number. Today, these people only live with the memory of how their ancestors had once lived, while they exist in but a shell of what had once been a great civilisation.
