Chamble is a dry and generally uninviting world, its original inhabitants having been the miners that made a living from the materials in its crust. Unsurprisingly, it was only by human colonization of the system four thousand years ago that any permanent population was established on the planet. Most of its inhabitants lived in small underground communities, to be near the mine shafts where they worked.
Their subterranean existence and the difficulties inherent to farming the surface mean that, outside of what hydroponic growth could be maintained underground, residents of Chamble were almost entirely dependent on regular shipments of food and other supplies. Immigration was encouraged in order to attract the industries that were necessary in order to support the mining community and today, Chamble has the third largest population in the system.
