Last Updated: Year 16 Day 364
Another cold planet within the H'nemthe system, Gorpithom is home to some of the richest mining deposits of all its neighbors. The entire planet is cold barren rock and home to nothing more than bacteria and other microorganisms. A H'nemthean colony once populated the planet, but the difficulties of keeping the colony warm, supplies and protecting against toxic atmosphere were too taxing for the species at the time. Something in the air made H'nemthean males sterile causing the usual act of evisceration after a mating session detrimental to the original colonizes population. As a result of the sterilization, Gorpithom is off limits to all male H'nemtheans. Females seeking the occasional rare gems from the planet may do so with a specialized permit.
Gorpithom is believed to have formed late into the birth of the H'nemthe system. Collecting left over gases and the collisions of millions, perhaps even billions, of asteroids, Gorpithom formed into a near solid rock with a mildly toxic atmosphere. The impact of so many asteroids should have be apparent by the presence of immense craters, but an extremely strong gravity has evened out the landmasses of Gorpithom. Instead deep caves can be found spread out over the planet. Each and every cave on Gorpithom is unstable and liable to collaps under the weight of the planet's gravity.
Gorpithom's gravity is a significant impedment to space travel as it's well extends beyond the normal range for such a planet. Travelers attempting to skirt by the planet at normally safe distance will often find themselves unexplicably in normal space as their hyperdrive registers nearby mass.
