Te Beskar’ad bal Te Beskar’galaar – The Droid and The Iron Hawk
Posted by: Kai Oryk, Mando`ade
Date: Year 22 Day 176 Onboard the Acclamator-class Assault Ship The Krayt Fang in system Manda (312, -168).

(MNB) Aloriya, Manda – Upon its arrival back at its homeport of Manda, The Krayt Fang — the mobile base of operations of the Mando'ade hunting and starfighter events — broadcast its news round up of the recent events that occurred during the Eleventh Uli-ah Gafsa Memorial Swap Meet event at Yelsain.

As has become an unintended tradition, the Swap Meet's events on Yelsain concluded with the Mando'ade competitions' closing ceremonies, both the Mandalorian-hosted Droid Hunt and the newly created Iron Hawk Challenge.

A growing trend saw the Swap Meet's attendee numbers drop considerably once again. However, it is believed that the reason for the decline of this Meet was due to the chosen locale and the significant distance from the major hyperlanes and trade hubs spread throughout the galaxy.

The drop in numbers resulted in a lower-than-expected turnout for the Swap Meet events as well. Despite the slump, the arranged tournaments produced an action-packed series of competitions that had many spectators, pilots, and hunters alike captivated by the broadcasts from Rehd Duurgo, KIXER, and Mav Rykk.

The Droid Hunt returned to the Swap Meet, and the competition pitted seven different contestants against one another to see who could capture the most droids over four days.

Thrilling its spectators from start to finish, the highlights broadcasts detailed the efforts by the hunters, who pushed themselves to their limits within the shorter timeframe that had been organised to add a further challenge to the ever-evolving hunting competitions.

The event saw competitors spend four days hunting their droid quarry and turning in the highest number of points possible by solely capturing droids. With countless droid parts strewn throughout the forest planet requiring cleanup, the event ended with final scores being submitted, and anxious hunters were soon informed whether they had done enough to become the next champion of the event.

The closing ceremony was held a single planetary rotation later. It was attended by numerous sentients - including entrants who had taken part during the event and spectators, sponsors, and other patrons eager to see which of their favourite hunters would be crowned champion.

From seven entrants — including the first-ever Jawa participant — the number of droids captured and level of damage dealt resulted in one hunter being crowned champion, Lilith Delcroix, who was followed closely by runners-up Kolomon Seph and Ogban Orineddi, taking Second and Third place positions, respectively.

Delcroix rose to prominence early in the week and was later seen utilising her skills against several R0-L0 Tank Droids, with Rehd Duurgo comparing her to an "Echani Firedancer" with the movement and ferocity witnessed during her droid skirmishes.

Following the events' conclusion, Huntmaster Kara Vhekade reminded fans and competitors alike that the next hunting event would take place on Nimban for the Twelfth Uli-ah Gafsa Memorial Swap Meet and that the Mandalorians looked forward to seeing the steely determination and the wide variety of entrants they have come to expect from previous hunting events.

Once the droid hunting event concluded, it was swiftly followed by the latest event thought up by Mandalorian minds to give pilots of any creed or galactic affiliation an opportunity to prove their starfighter skills against other pilots.

Overseen by Mandalorian pilot Mav Rykk and Rehd Duurgo, the Iron Hawk Challenge pitted various contenders against one another in rounds that saw them fly one of three fighter-class ships against their opponent, with the winner advancing to the next round until there was only one pilot left, Te Beskar'galaar - The Iron Hawk Champion.

The event featured entrants from a wide array of species, including Barabel, Corellian, Mirialan, Togorian, Twi'lek, and Wookiee pilots fighting it out to prove who was the best. The week's rounds would provide both an electrifying spectacle and a flight school in the various piloting styles that were on show.

From manoeuvres that included the risky Concordia Faceoff to the Koiogran turn, some pilots' fraught actions saw both desperation and luck turn the tides against similarly skilled opponents and those they were unable to get a weapons lock. The resulting firefights saw Cloakshape/H fighters spin out of control, R-41 Starchasers obliterated by unshakable concussion missiles, and T-Wing Interceptor rounds run on and on from the constant outmanoeuvring as the pilots' close-combat tactics saw them missing one another by the smallest of margins.

Despite the sheer will and determination of some pilots, there were some competitors taking part who were just better. This was seen when even the Force was unable to match the piloting skills of one pilot, who ended up winning all three tiers of the competition.

The Corellian Bengar Bortrek entered all three tiers of the event following his less successful entry into the Droid Hunt and flew against some of the most inventive and skilful pilots in the galaxy, defeating them all.

Mandalorian pilot Mav Rykk was quoted as saying, "He's one of the best pilots I've seen in a while, and I've trained some of the best. A real flyboy."

When asked about the event's success in general, Rykk was said to be pleased by both the turnout and the way that the event progressed. However, he agreed that changes needed to be made to the event's tier structure to suit pilots' different skill sets. Still, he stood by the fact that those pilots with exceptional skills in starfighter combat would always be welcome to try themselves against other hotshot pilots in future Iron Hawk Challenge competition.

Rehd Duurgo was quick to confirm that the Iron Hawk Challenge would return soon and clarified that the competition would not be solely linked to the Swap Meet but follow a more fluid calendar to be "much more accessible to pilots from all over."

The news of future events comes as the latest battle simulator technology appears to have taken the galaxy by storm. Numerous space stations are offering patrons the ability to take the controls of some of the most advanced starfighters and corvettes as well as engage in battles against ships they might have never have encountered before.

As a result, the next Iron Hawk Challenge may see even more spectacular battles from pilots who have taken their skills and strategies learned from the simulators as they try to compete to become the next Iron Hawk Champion.
