Planet: Soronia
Table of Contents [hide]

The planet of Soronia is the planet furthest from the Corellian sun and consists of nothing but ice and rock. However, despite its barren appearance, there are extensive mining facilities stretching underneath its surface. Imperial prospectors from years ago realized the potentially large stores of high-grade iron ore that can be refined into durasteel, a material heavily used in ship manufacturing. In the past year alone, the amount of iron ore mined from Soronia was refined into enough durasteel to manufacture ten Imperial-class Star Destroyers. The early mining days of Soronia were conducted with minimal military protection, however, recent rebel activity in raiding transports lifting off from this world had caused some concern at the office of the Corellian Sector Moff. The result being more frequent patrols to the outer rim of the Corellian System, with a focus on Soronia. Rumor has it that many foremen working at the underground mining facilities on this world are bribed by rebels, secretly smuggling valuable ore to rebel cells. The mining corporations that cooperatively develop this planet and its facilities strongly denies this allegation, and they are said to be continually adding internal security checks to prevents occurrences of such actions.

The planet of Soronia has no atmosphere, which makes mining somewhat more complicated though not out of the ordinary in the day of the life of a space miner. The vacuum of space sometimes caused underground mines to collapse unexpectedly in the early days, but today safety support structures are the first concern when the miners expand operations into new areas.

Soronia also provides income to the Corellian System government, the Corellian Alliance, in another manner. The deep craters of this planet provide an ideal location as a spaceship junkyard. The gravity of this planet is just enough to keep the old, broken-down ships grounded, and the distance of Soronia from the rest of Corellian civilization means no one really minds having a junkyard, normally an eyesore, in the system. The Corellian Alliance employs a small number of heavy space haulers, buying broken-beyond-repair spaceships at low prices, towing them to Soronia to disassemble and sell as parts. By reviewing the public financial records of Corellian Alliance one will see that this operation provides a significant income to the government's budget. This junkyard is also a favorable place to contact when antique ship collectors around the galaxy are in search of rare parts, everything ranging from authentic leather captains seats from the original generation of Corellian Corvettes to complete engine setups of Old Republic-era luxury yachts.
