Planet: Berri II
Table of Contents [hide]

Berri II is the smallest planet in the Berri System. It orbits very close around the sun and, despite the near star, the planet remains constantly cold. The reason for this is that the surface of Berri II contains a large quantity of light-reflective rocks that send the heat back to space. This unusual characteristic allows for the formation of small ice deposits on the northern pole. Berri II is constantly hit by asteroids, and so, almost one-third of the planet is covered with small craters.

The settling of villages sponsored by the Trade Federation a few years back was to promote research and mining exploration on this remote planet. The small colonies are now almost self-sufficient. Even though the planet has no atmosphere, the scientists have used the water from the northern glacier to grow the majority of food used in the planet.

They do this by evaporating large quantities of water and then filling some balloon-like structures with a mix of this vapor and processed oxygen. The plants are then grown in these facilities with the mineral-rich soil that can be found all across the world as substrate. This novel process is now being implemented in other outposts that, because of their distance to more populated worlds, have a hard time dealing with provisions.
