Planet: Ruuria
Table of Contents [hide]

Long before its widespread urbanisation, Ruuria was a world of vast jungles and dense forestlands stretching over the supercontinent that made up much of the planet’s surface. Its two main oceans located in the northern and southern hemispheres respectively were well known in the Xappyh sector for their abundance in marine life, as well as the pristine clarity of their deep blue waters. While the climate on Ruuria had always been warm and humid, neither was oppressively so, which had made the green orb a popular destination for tourists from across the galaxy seeking leisure in a semi-tropical resort. Today, nearly all of the planet’s surface has been covered beneath layers of heavily populated residential blocks, bustling centres of commerce and trade, as well as towering, spiralling skyscrapers.

Ruuria is home to a native sentient species called the Ruurians. They are fourteen-legged flying insectoids with feathered, thick antennae on their heads, four-fingered hands, and huge multifaceted eyes. These people have a three-stage lifespan, starting out as highly intelligent and artistic larvae and ending up as simple-minded creatures with a sole focus on eating, flying, and mating, with no interest in labour. As a result, those Ruurians who are in their larvae-stage are responsible for their society’s day-to-day running and the administration of their planetary government.

The homeworld of the Ruurians was discovered early on in the age of the Old Republic, despite its remoteness from the Core Worlds. Due to its location along the Hydian Way - a super-hyperroute bisecting the galaxy - the people of Ruuria attracted enough wealth and trade over the centuries to become a technologically advanced species that spread to other worlds within the Tingel Arm, eventually forming the Unified Ruurian Colonies. Yet, the Ruurians and their worlds did not always maintain their allegiance to the Galactic Republic, as during the Jedi Civil War, these people had aligned themselves with Revan’s Empire. Three hundred years later, the Sith once again managed to sway the Ruurians to their cause, as the resurgent Sith Empire had managed to install puppet governments on Belkadan, Sernpidal, and Ruuria, trapping the Republic fleet in the Tingel Arm at the start of the Great Galactic War. Eventually, the Ruurian homeworld was liberated and re-joined the Galactic Senate. In the millennia that followed, the planet's enduring loyalty to the Republic was rewarded with a steady population growth in large part through immigration, as it attracted various species from across the galaxy both widespread and more local. In recent years, the most notable and perhaps most unexpected influx of alien immigration came from the Jawas native to Tatooine. Their industrious nature and ingenuity greatly aided the urbanisation efforts the planetary surface was subjected to in recent years.
