Planet: Ebra
Table of Contents [hide]

Ebra is the sole orbital body of the Dousc star. This cold, desolate planet has a somewhat elliptic orbit which governs its seasons much more than the planets axial rotation. Each orbit takes approximately 12.1 standard galactic years to complete with only four of those years spent in close enough proximity to Dousc to melt some of the glaciers and provide liquid water. The planet’s surface is poke-marked with craters and where it is not covered in thick glacial ice, towering mountains, some of them covered in sparse, but hardy, evergreen forests tend to dominate the view. Deep canyons can be found between the mountain ranges and several large caverns still survive near its equatorial region where glacial activity is at its weakest.

Hyper-lanes leading to the Dousc system were discovered in the modern era by scouts from the Alliance of Mercenary Consortiums and although initial scans of the planet seemed to indicate that it was pretty much devoid of life, closer examination would prove otherwise. The first signs of life came in the form of Duracrete Slugs with some reports claiming to have spotted colossal specimens of this pest. The planet is in fact completely infested with this building-munching pest and attempts to build initial colonization camps were severely hampered. The reason for this creatures abundance became clear when surface exploration revealed the remnants of hundreds, perhaps thousands of settlements, some large enough to be comparable to the most populated cities in the known galaxy. The mountain forests and caverns dotting the landscape also host life and the crags, crevices and slopes of Ebra are home to a variety of mammalian and aviary species.

The mystery of the abandoned settlements began to unravel when surface scouts descended into the deep canyons and caverns of the planet. Here, hidden from surface scans, a sentient species had made its home. The Ebranites, or Ebranians depending on dialect were fearsome looking, six armed creatures that seemed to be ideally designed to climb and clamber around the underground terrain they inhabited. Further interactions with the Ebranites would reveal that they had once thrived on the surface of the planet but a cataclysmic event had all but wiped them out, and only the cave dwelling clans remained. This event, a triple asteroid strike some five centuries past, had shrouded the planet in a dust cloud for decades, caused huge instability in the planetary crust and a time of lava flows and earthquakes had further diminished life on the planet. The largest effect of this event however was the slight change in the planets orbital pattern, knocking it into the current elliptical orbit, rather than the more stable orbit it had before.

Although primitive, the Ebranites are a key factor in the survival of the minimal biodiversity on this planet as they dedicate their lives to the preservation of life on this harsh environment. Thus, the canyons and forest mountains maintain an ecosystem that although limited in diversity, is still strong enough to help sustain life on Ebra. The most interesting aspect of the Ebranites manipulation of the planetary ecosystem, is perhaps their harnessing of the native predatory reptiles known as the Hag'thyyrs, to keep the Duracrete Slugs under control, and away from the underground settlements.
