Synonymous with an unknown warrior culture, this prototype war droid was in fact developed in secret by a brilliant but reclusive research scientist whose work was far ahead of his time. The origins of the machine were never formally recorded, and an unknown culture eventually acquired the designs through conquest and covert acquisition, integrating the prototype into their arsenals as a battlefield test platform. The prototype is a hexapedal semisentient war machine designed to resemble a mechanical cross between a Zalorian rock lion and a Karran beetle. The first pair of legs are larger and stronger while the two rear pairs are smaller but more nimble. Ranging in height from three to almost five metres and boasting an open topped cockpit mounted atop its shoulders a rider perched on the prototype was an imposing sight especially when it descended from low orbit on blazing thrusters.

This experimental variant of the prototype droid is packed to the brim with weapon systems and shield generators as though the scientist wanted to test the absolute maximum amount of ordnance that could be crammed into a single frame. To power this array of weapons and defenses the prototype mounts an expensive and notoriously temperamental miniaturized power unit. Only thirty percent the size of a standard power core of similar output this compact reactor provides enough energy to operate a battery of weapons that includes multiple autoblasters laser cannons and even rocket launchers along with highly advanced shield systems. In testing the prototype proved capable of standing toe to toe with armored vehicles and entire platoons of regular troops all while delivering staggering levels of firepower from its many weapon emplacements. Despite this fearsome capability prolonged combat revealed a critical flaw the miniature power unit had a tendency to overheat sometimes catastrophically leading to meltdown or explosion. This instability combined with the enormous cost of the unit meant that only a small number of these prototype war droids were ever constructed before the unknown culture abandoned the design in favor of a more reliable variant using a conventional power supply and a reduced weapons load.

On Year 27 Day 74, Researchers from the Quintas System released information that this droid was part of Project Basilisk, and would be colloquially referred to as such.
