Close combat weapons originally designed by the Kyuzo, a species native to the gravity-heavy world of Phatrong, petar are powered cutting weapons analogous to the more common vibro-knives found throughout the galaxy. Comprising a knuckleduster shaped hilt housing a miniature power cell, petar have alloy blades extending vertically both above and below the hilt. These blades, typically around thirty centimetres in length can be single edged, double edged, straight or curved depending on the user’s preference. While these blades are sharp enough to inflict serious wound, the wielder can make them even more deadly by activating the monomolecular energy cord embedded along the cutting edge of the blade. When activated, the cord gives the blade edge a scintillating shine and enables the blade to cut through flesh and bone as easily as a vibro-weapon or even a lightsaber.

Fighting effectively with petar, and in fact, even wielding them without undue risk to the user, typically requires more training than fighting with a vibroknife or similar weapon due to the alignment of the twin blades. Once proficiency to obtained however, an expert petar user is a true force in close combat, able to punch, cut and thrust with the weapons and defeat multiple foes armed with melee weapons.
