With the Galactic Civil War escalating, independent governments found themselves facing a common threat in the increasing superiority of super-capital warships, capable of overwhelming entire fleets or even blockading entire systems with their mere presence. Recognizing that no single government alone could field the resources to develop a new warship capable of answering this threat, independent governments across the galaxy began to clandestinely work together, exchanging research and development, engineering teams, and black-site manufacturing networks. The result of this collective effort was the Behemoth-class Star Dreadnought, an 8.8-kilometer mobile capital designed not only to challenge the largest warships ever constructed, but to function as a self-sustaining, independent seat of government and military command for an entire star system should terrestrial control be threatened.
The Behemoth possesses a long, predatory silhouette that resembles a spear or arrow. Its 8.8-kilometer hull tapers and narrows into a distinctive split prow, with the upper port and starboard sections housing the forward flight decks, which feature a revolutionary adaptive racking system capable of accommodating a vast array of different starfighter configurations. Rather than relying on mechanical clamps, each rack deploys an array of precision repulsors that automatically adjust to secure different fighter variants. Two of these racking systems are installed in the port and starboard sections of the colossal bow. Beneath the hangars, a network of heavy-duty elevators descends for hundreds of meters into the bow, linking multiple storage decks capable of housing thousands of starfighters. This internal storage arrangement allows fighters to be rapidly staged, armed, and launched, giving the Behemoth an unparalleled deployment rate despite its size. While incredibly advanced, the complexity of the system is extremely maintenance intensive. Fortunately, most of the ship's engineering team quarters are located nearby, adjacent to the ventral engine nacelles. This convenient location centralizes the largest of the warship's maintenance needs while also giving engineers direct access to the dozens of recessed proton torpedo and turbolaser batteries across the front of the bow. This gives the Behemoth-class Star Dreadnought incredible forward firepower while simultaneously providing cover for the fighter bays.
The long midship section of the vessel forms the operational core of the Behemoth class, housing a majority of the ship's accommodations, support services, and infrastructure. Connected by horizontal and vertical turbolifts, the internal habitation modules house thousands of officers, enlisted personnel, engineers, and support staff spread over dozens of decks. Medical facilities and mess halls can be found throughout these modules, along with most of the ship's escape pods and emergency shelters. Large sensor arrays and shield projection blister pods are placed sporadically across the midship, interwoven between additional proton torpedo, turbolaser, and ion batteries across the hull, capable of repelling assaults from any direction.
Projecting from the starboard side, the Command Citadel is a heavily armored superstructure that houses the ship's operations personnel alongside government officials and diplomats. Multiple Combat Information Centers receive reports from throughout the vessel, coordinating starfighter operations, directing the Behemoth's weapons systems, and managing its navigation and maneuvering during combat. Three dedicated logistics docking bays provide direct support to the Citadel, allowing cargo transports to deliver supplies, equipment, personnel, and rations directly to the administrative complex without interfering with the Behemoth's primary flight decks or combat operations. Government offices, diplomatic suites, and conference chambers enable the Dreadnought to function as a fully operational seat of state, allowing governmental administration and strategic planning to continue uninterrupted even if planetary control is lost, with the Behemoth serving as the government's mobile capital
The aft engineering section is dominated by the Behemoth's immense engine nacelles and hyperdrive assembly. Surrounding these critical components are vast manufacturing and logistics complexes responsible for producing food, medical supplies, replacement parts, and munitions necessary for prolonged deployment. Extensive hydroponic farms, algae cultivation facilities, and advanced water recycling plants provide a sustainable source of food and water, greatly reducing the vessel's reliance on external resupply. Combined with expansive storage bays for raw materials and fuel, the aft section ensures the Behemoth can sustain both military and government operations for potentially years at a time, a veritable fortress amongst the stars.
