Lustrous, luxurious and decadent, d’oemir bear hide is amongst the finest mammal fur in the galaxy. Coveted by fashionistas from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim, d’oemir bear hides come in a variety of colours including black, russet, tan or most often, white. The fur is double-layered with a soft, velvety undercoat and long guard hairs. Easy to brush and keep clean, the furs are also insulating, and can keep the wearer warm in freezing temperatures. Jackets and long coats made from the hides and fur can retail for significant sums and there are long waiting lists in furriers all throughout the galaxy for these luxuriant pelts. The demand for these hides has led to rampant poaching, and the populations of d’oemir bear on many worlds has fallen significantly.

Many governments are taking steps to protect remaining bear populations, leading to supply shortages and climbing prices for intact d’oemir bear hides in good condition. As it takes two or even three hides to make a full length fur coat, poachers are taking more and greater risks to hunt the remaining bear populations and harvest their valuable coats. Even other bear species have not been spared, as less discriminating or poorly informed poachers target more numerous ursine species for a quick profit.
