Ore is taken from the planet of Makem Te itself, with the iron being naturally resistant to the searing radiation and shifting thermal conditions of the planet. The process of forging a memorial or cenotaph is a sacred duty, one that binds priest, family and artisans together in a final act of remembrance.

As warfare is never ending on Makem Te, Swokes Swokes mature with an ever present understanding that death may come suddenly, whether in battle or from the merciless conditions of their own planet. It is customary for any Swokes Swokes that senses an end approaching to seek out their priest, along side a Swokes Swokes lapidarist. It is believed that prayers and memories spoken over a gemstone will be imbued within it while the stone is being shaped, becoming a vessel for the soul and a memories essence.

Once complete, the iron marker and its inside stones are risen to the tract of Makem Te, where they are set in a place of honour amongst the countless others that cover the desert. When the conditions are just right the heat, wind and magnetic feel of the planet align in a way that causes the iron to hum faintly. This quiet chorus amongst the desert is believed to be the voices of the departed within their stones, singing their stories and memories for all to hear, so that they may be remembered.
