ICIS was a program you downloaded to interact with the SWC universe. The admins advertised a new upcoming client called Darkness, which it turned out was completely integrated with the SWC website. So, the entire site here is Darkness.
I dare you to make less sense.
Are you a newbie, or do you have access to newbies?
Darkness was the codename for the project started by Venix Soyak (Our leader / Art Director / part time Combine web coder ) , Jessy James ( King of Hapes, php dev. ), Jodo Kast ( retired combine developer ) and Ranma (Webmaster at the time), to serve as a wedding gift to Veynom ( Simmaster ).
It was meant to be a webclient to replace the old ICIS downloadable client, which, because its main developer did not want to share code when he quit, could not be developed further.
Darkness was chosen as a name because Darkness has always been the test-faction the Admins used to test things, as well as it being a suitable name for a game that was to simulate the dark times of the Empire.
As more and more developers began to work on the client with us, the Darkness-team grew in size, and always referred to the client as Darkness when bragging to their friends about it, so the name kinda stuck, and here we are calling the web-client "Darkness".
