I saw the Sim News for the release of Planetary Shields and also completely read the rules page for it as well.
However, there are 2 questions I have that the rules page did not answer
1) It says that travel to an area covered by shield is prohibited (unless shield generator is attached to a Computer Control Centre and you are on the Computer Control Centre's crewlist)
But, does this also mean that if you are already in an area (e.g. a city) covered by shield, you are also prohibited from leaving the area just as much as ships are prohibited from entering it?
2) Pertaining to shield generator access, say you try to fly into an area covered by a shield (and you have no access), is your ship destroyed, or does it just deny you from going there?
Thanks in advance for answering these questions.

Since it doesn't specify the direction, it results travel is forbidden in both directions (meaning both from ground to atmosphere and atmosphere to ground).
I'll add my question here too. I just want to make sure I understand correctly.
By "Planetary Shields cover a 3x3 Area on the Atmospheric map."
is it meant that a shield covers 1 extra square in each direction from the current square?
My understanding is that shield projectors will be used to supplement the shields of entities in orbit/immediate surrounding area of the planet. Probably only a single entity per projector, but until the rules are written and it is implemented, there's no way to be sure.
And of course, the usage may change between now and implementation, so don't hold me to the above.

well I believe the idea is that you may have a hidden city next to a city w/shield generator. More specifically when you don't have any access to that city's SG.
Well Tarc as far as I can make out, if you attempt to travel from the atmosphere to the ground when there is a shield there it will simply prevent you from descending. It sounds like you can travel all through the atmosphere as ususal, but over a shield you canot descend without permision.
If shields are activated, then the only way to gain access to them is through ground cross-terrain function.
Assuming I understood that correctly and the above is true, then imagine this scenario.
There is a large planet, say, a 15x15 planet. Each grid is a city (like Coruscant). So now, each city has a shield generator, and each generator is now activated.
Since one will not be able to cross terrain into an un"protected" grid, does this mean the entire planet will effectively become a quarantine zone, or a prison planet?

You will have to be on the crewlists of the CCCs that are controlling those generators to get in or out. 100% coverage = no chance to land/escape if you're not on the list.

I capture someone on, say, a 2x2 asteroid. I buff up the whole asteroid with shield generators, CCC and power generators.
Then I dump the guy on the asteroid. So just as an example, I'm going to say that I'll have 20 shield generators there.
Right now I don't see anything about how long a shield can hold up, but I'm guessing that sooner or later, a shield has to be shut down to cool down.
Anywho, I can fire up another one (in a different city) and let the other one cool down. This will, of course, still not allow the guy I trapped there to escape, and since I have 20 shield generators, chances of him ever escaping are low.
So my question is, would I be allowed to trap this guy on the asteroid forever? Or does the hidden "3-weeks-then-player-can-be-moved-by-admins" rule come into effect here?
