Hey there,

I don't mind who answers this question. I was wondering what kind of rules apply to faction names? I assume it is better to keep things as 'star warsy' as possible, but what room is there for a little bit of universe cross-referencing?

For example- if I wanted to start a faction and loosely base it on SPECTRE (an organisation from the James Bond universe) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPECTRE would I be allowed to do that?

Obviously I would take any references out that refer to any characters that don't exist in the Combine universe, similar to how in the Jedi Order there is no reference to Luke Skywalker, in the Sith no reference to Palpatine or Vader, etc.

(I am not planning on starting a faction called SPECTRE, I just have some RP ideas in mind for the future that I thought I'd ask about first).

There are really no rules. Other than not naming yourself something that could be confused with a current faction like "Galactic Empires" or "The Falleen Federation" (minor changes) or something obscene, it can be pretty much anything.
