Is it possible to add conversational NPCs to my party? If so, how?

Go to the room that the NPC is in (through the position screen), click on the party button (still in the position screen), select the NPC (or PC) you want in your party (position screen, still) , then click add. (yeah, position screen, I'm just doing this to confuse people)
