I have no interest in being one myself, but I do in fact wonder what they do. Are they like the "police" of the galaxy? Can they kill other players? What is their job?

Year 9 Day 191 22:28
They hunt for bounties. No, seriously. If you want to have another player captured/killed, then you offer an amount of money for them, known as a bounty. Then, bounty hunters go after the person, and when they hand the person over to you/prove the person is dead, then you pay them the amount you offered.

They're somewhat limited currently since there is no combat and the OOF AE feature has some fairly severe constraints, but nonetheless some bounty hunters manage it quite well.

Sorta sounds unfair to the victim if ya ask me!

So, I probably shouldn't piss off a wealthy sentinent being, lol.

How much do you think it costs to have this service done for you? Just curious... Not that I would actually do it...

Really depends on who you hire and who you want killed.

Year 9 Day 192 13:59
Bounties can range from thousands of credits, up to tens of millions of credits depending on the difficulty of a kill.

For example, you are not going to attract any attention by offering a 50,000cr bounty for the leader of a well-known faction. In fact, I would argue that the way the current AE/combat functions, very few if any bounty hunters would try to kill someone of that stature, like Vodo Bonias, regardless of the amount of the bounty.

I recently posted a number of bounties for 1 million credits each. I did this knowing it would not attract the attention of any true professional who had a chance of getting the job done right. The only chance it had was swaying the mind of someone who was in the right place at the right time.

For the average target, I'd think an amount in the 5-10 million range is the price for getting one of the more capable hunters working for you. For more important, harder-to-get targets, you're easily looking at over 10 million.

Bounty Hunters are kind of limited in that they can only hunt in area's in which they actually have permission to operate. This makes them more security or police than actually bounty hunters who theoretically should be able to go anywhere and arrest or kill with or without permission. However this will be moot when … is released as they will simply go and kill the target which is sad really as arrest I think should also be an option.

Arrest will still be an option, but you'll have to subdue the character first.
