I just noticed that Ships ---> Cargo containers has an entry.
http://www.swcombine.com/rules/?Cargo_Containers
I assume this is newish because I have not seen it before. Does anyone know any plans for this entity, or future container variants?

I know its been around since about the time the last lot of CP ships came through, and i know its on the CPM ships list (because some scammer tried to sell one) but i haven't seen nor heard anything about them, so i was wondering about this too.

It was introduced when the recycling code was cleaned up. Its produced when a station is recycled. No other way at the moment to get one.

And do they disappear when the recycled mats are removed? Or do they just sit there and become useful for doing stuff?

Don't think many people have actually one it yet, but I suspect they hang around afterwards.

So a kind of cheap way to store tons of stuff, rather than using epods. Sounds awesome.

I was under the impression that already-produced escape pods would be transformed into these cargo containers after the current escape pod system was introduced, but that never actually came to fruition.

Year 12 Day 228 1:40
If it ever got around to being done, would the escape pod datacard also be transformed accordingly?

Year 12 Day 228 2:34
Obviously.

Ellias, be nice now. That may not have been as self-evident to others as it was to you. It certainly wasn't to me and i'm glad Phillip asked.

I have a bunch of them now after taking down some large stations. They do not disappear when they are emptied. They also cannot move and require a big ship to move

Year 12 Day 228 23:57
If you just need to move them intra-system, a tractor beam should work.

Year 12 Day 229 0:11
Phiip a tractor beam would be the only way to move them, unless you can enter it and go to a control room and dock it that way like a ship.

If you mean drag it behind the ship with a tractor beam, no. Tractor beams don't work that way - they bring stuff inside the ship/vehicle.

Can't you 'dock' an entity without being in it? (ie: drag it into a ship large enough to carry it, using the tractor beam)

I'm certain I've picked up ships in our faction's C3 without boarding the ships and docking them in the C3... (Not positive though.)

(Unless of course these cargo containers behave differently to ships, and cannot be tractored.)

P.S. It's entirely possibly that I have no idea what I'm talking about. :p

That is what I said...

I'm sorry Ellias, you're correct. I misread your post, and missed the "*unless* you can enter" bit. =)
